Jay Wiseman Teaches Basic Rope Bondage
Tie Me Up How To!
Starring: Jay Wiseman, Mollena, Ed and Freya.
Will Appeal To: The newly curious and totally uninitiated.
This is the most basic of basic. Author of SM 101 and the more advanced
Erotic Bondage Handbook, Jay Wiseman is a BDSM expert who specializes
in rope bondage and he shares all his wisdom here. Watching this video
is like being in one of Jay’s classes: much of it is straight to-camera
instruction. He’s folksy and homey and very reassuring. It takes quite
a while to get to the actual demonstrations, so those with short
attention spans might wind up fast-forwarding. But that would be
missing the point of the DVD and the lessons it contains. Wiseman is
very thorough and totally non-threatening; he really knows his stuff.
The DVD comes boxed with a Xeroxed “supplemental handout” of knots
included, which is probably what you’d get if you were to attend a live
class with him.
Jay addresses the what, where, who, when and how of basic bondage,
starting right at the beginning with the rope: types, lengths, sealing,
caring for your rope, and so on. He discusses the types of
bondage—sensation, decoration, symbolic—and has a few scene people
share their experiences.
Eventually he demonstrates the basic knots and covers safety
precautions in extensive detail: how long should someone be in bondage,
how to recognize if it the knots are too tight, smart places to play,
how much is enough, etc. He explains safe words, silent alarms and the
many precautions you should take to play safely.
Jay even delves into the who and when, talking about trust levels of
play partners and topics such as emotional stress, basically what sort
of situations to avoid. I can’t imagine anyone allowing themselves to
be tied up by someone they don’t know well or trust, but given that
this is a total beginner’s lesson, it’s probably safe not to make any
assumptions. And while much of the information is common sense, it’s
better to err on the side of safety.
The demos finally begin far into the video and though there is some
nudity, if what you’re looking for is trussed up beauties, you will be
sorely disappointed. This is much more instruction than entertainment.
Jay ties the basic cuffs, harness, hog tie, figure eight and a few
slightly more elaborate demos with help from his co-stars. There’s no
decorative tying or more advanced play such as suspension. It is very,
very basic.
At the end we’re treated to a few outtakes, which are amusing, but
nothing like the stuff you’ll see in porn—or network TV. It is fun to
see Jay having trouble cutting the rope, though, and it serves as a
lesson that even the experts are always learning.
If you have never been to a BDSM club, party or event…if you have never
seen anyone tied up ever…if you are truly new to the scene, this will
be the most valuable DVD you’ll ever buy. It isn’t just an entry level
lesson about rope bondage but for the entire scene, so I would
recommend it to anyone with a newbie’s curiosity and total lack of
experience.
