Julie Simone
Renaissance Fetishist
Julie Simone
is a fetish presence to be reckoned with. She’s a model and a
photographer; she’s been in front of the video lens and behind it, too.
And she became an expert rigger from watching people rig her. So you’d
better watch yourself around this woman, because she’s likely to be
observing your every move, plotting to learn all your tricks while
glamorously batting her eyelashes. This is one sharp fetishist, my
friends. Consider yourselves warned! Perhaps these few telling words
will give you a valuable window into her soul. But you should still
watch your back.
ErosZine: Tell us a little bit about your background.
Julie Simone: I grew up in Germany in a village near Kaiserslautern. I
wanted to be a gymnast, a ballerina, or a cage dancer in New York City.
In high school I was a cheerleader and in JROTC. Our JROTC program was
much more than a class; we had survival training in the woods,
officer's training and I attended a summer school program that had me
going through two weeks of basic training by army drill sergeants. Back
then I was shy and awkward, addicted to power; I guess nothing's really
changed. :)
EZ: How long have you been involved in the fetish world?
JS: I think my introduction was back in '98 or '99. A glamour
photographer got me into bondage. We started with handcuffs and leather
restraints and I thought it was easy, so I started booking more bondage
shoots. I got in WAY over my head on more than one occasion!
I was introduced to latex by a guy who said he was doing a documentary
on weight loss and wearing latex 24-7 for two weeks. It turned out he
was looking for more, but at least I got to keep the latex bed sheet,
some Marquis magazines and "The White Room 3,", which changed my life
forever.
EZ: How did you wind up as a fetish personality?
JS: I guess people liked me? I just did a ton of work, so they had no choice BUT to find me.
EZ: Are you into BDSM in your private life?
JS: Does BDSM turn me on? YES. Do I have many opportunities to play in
my private life? NO. But the few experiences I've had have been
amazing. It's hard when you're Julie Simone. People are afraid to top
you, because they know I'll know when they're fucking up or don't know
what they're doing.
EZ: What are your personal interests?
JS: I love my cats, going to museums, walking, especially in nature. I
like to think, to analyze and pick apart everything.
EZ: How about your personal fetishes?
JS: Women's feet when they're nice and well-taken care of, long hair
(women), smoking (men), caning as a dom and sub, pain in general.
EZ: Tell me about the smoking fetish.
JS: I don't know how it started. My mom actually had a "No Smoking"
sticker on our front door! I didn't smoke in high school. But there's
just something about watching a man smoke and the way he holds it in
his fingers, whether he puffs or angrily and forcefully sucks in the
smoke. There's just something hot about it to me.
EZ: I see you began as a model, which you continue to do. Who have you modeled for? What clothes do you most enjoy wearing?
JS: I'm not really into fashion. Most of my ex's have said I dress like
a librarian. I like clothes that are comfortable or sexy. The best is
when they're both.
EZ: What photographers have you worked with?
JS: There's so many and I doubt any of them would mention me in an interview so FUCK 'EM!
EZ: What particular shoots have you enjoyed the most?
JS: "The Submission of Julie Simone" with Rick Savage. He's an amazing
dom. He could have done anything he wanted to me.
EZ: You’re a photographer yourself. Being a model must make you a more
compassionate lens woman. Tell me about the people you've shot,
interesting stories, etc.
JS: I try to be more aware than my male counterparts. An interesting
story: I was shooting Scarlett Wound in the desert. It looked pretty
deserted and I didn't feel like trekking a million miles with all my
equipment. During the third set, we got shut down. Her arms were tied
so that her breasts were covered, but the park ranger (female, of
course) insisted that we clothe her and leave. I was particularly
annoyed because those shots were fashion shots. She was wearing a
skirt, the ropes were her shirt.
EZ: You're also a painter....a true Renaissance woman! What inspires you, artistically?
JS: I'm inspired by pain, innocence, beauty, especially the beauty in suffering.
EZ: AND you're a well-respected rigger. Is there anything you CAN'T do?
JS: I can't play a musical instrument, though I did try to play the
violin in elementary school. I can't read music, I played by ear and
memory. I can't keep a boyfriend. Apparently dating me is
difficult.
EZ: Okay, we won’t talk about dating then! Tell us about the rigging.
Did you learn so you could set up your own shoots? Or did it become an
interest?
JS: I learned to rig by watching people tie me up. I was going all over
the country alone, letting strange men tie me up in hotel rooms. If
something went wrong, I needed to know how to get out.
When I started coming to LA for work, I had black hair, which meant I
was the villain, so I tied up the buxom blondes. That's pretty much how
it started.
When I was allowed to tie how I wanted to, it was a creative and
spiritual process for me. I only tie for my own productions these days.
I got tired of people telling me how to do my art. They were cheapening
it; I felt like I was losing a part of me with each and every tie, so I
stopped doing it. Hell, I was voted best rigger last year, better to go
out on top, don't you think?
EZ: It certainly further makes you "more than a pretty face." Any other hidden talents?
JS: Thanks. I’m a writer; I write a fair amount. I was an English
major/Latin minor. At some point it became my mission to show the world
that a woman can be intelligent, kinky AND beautiful.
EZ: I see you've appeared in fetish movies. Tell us about what those shoots are like for you.
JS: It depends on what type of fetish video you're doing. Foot fetish
videos are the best. They usually treat you like a princess. Bondage
and SM vids are grueling. Something they take as long as 14 hours.
EZ: You've transitioned from starring in fetish videos to producing them. What sort of films do we have to look forward to?
JS: I started producing videos for two reasons: One, I was tired of
everyone else making money off my name and two, I thought the
psychological element was being ignored. My films are more cerebral. I
try to have the bondage happen for a reason; I HATE gratuitous
anything. My first release is now out, "The Jogger." My best work to
date is a video I produced for Gothic Entertainment, "Dolly Dreams."
God, I wish I owned that film! It's more like an art/horror film that
happens to have lots of bondage in it. My next two releases are "Julie
Simone's Bondage Babes," vignettes of hot chicks tied up (okay, that
one is PURELY gratuitous!) and "Diary of a Submissive," which deals
with one woman's psychological journey. That's more of a dom/sub vid
with very little bondage in it.
EZ: Tell us about your web site. What's in development?
JS: My site, www.juliesimone.com,
just underwent an overhaul. In addition to the members' section (five
years worth of photos and video clips), there's now a huge pay per view
section that has a plethora of videos, video clips and photo sets from
which to choose. I should be changing over my video site, www.bondagetelly.com, to the same system soon, as well as moving all my photography over to its own site.
EZ: Anything you'd like to add?
JS: I think fans should show their appreciation for all the great
orgasms I've given them by sending gifts. And money! They can send them
to Julie Simone Productions, P.O. Box 46543, Los Angeles, CA 90046.
Because one good stroke deserves another!
